1915 – Mary Holtrop – 2016

Mary Holtrop, the daughter of Andrew and Jennie (Heitmeyer) Bosch, was born on October 14, 1915 in Sibley, Iowa. She grew up in the Sheldon and Hospers Iowa areas and attended country school. Mary was united in marriage to Fred Holtrop on March 3, 1936 at the Bosch family farm. After their marriage they lived and farmed in northwest Iowa until 1958 when they moved to Fulda, Minnesota. Together they farmed until their retirement in 1970 and moved into Fulda. Mary remained at home after Fred passed away in February of 1998. In December of 2006 she began residing at the Maple View Campus in Fulda. Mary passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 101. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda and a past member of the Reformed Church in Matlock, Iowa and American Reformed Church in Worthington, Minnesota, where she has active in Bible Study, teaching Sunday School and the Ladies Aid. Mary also belonged to the Fulda Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Extension Club, and was most active volunteering with her caring, loving, compassion and sharing her faith.  Mary enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling, visiting, knitting, quilting, traveling, spending many winters as a “Texas Snowbird” and she excelled in pie baking. We are blessed to have many fond memories of her energy and caring.

Survivors include her children: Andrew “Lee” (Glenda) Holtrop, Fulda, MN, Eugene Holtrop and friend, Doris, Sibley, IA, Marilyn Jiskoot, Orange City, IA and Marcia (Ron) Baumgard, Fulda, MN; 12 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren and sister Margaret Smith, Marietta, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law; two granddaughters-in-law; one great-grandson; one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 with Rev. John Lassen officiating.  The organist was Norma Meyeraan. Special Music provided by Gary and Sherri Hietbrink. The pallbearers were Dennis Holtrop, Donald Holtrop, Duane Holtrop, Douglas Jiskoot, Ryan Baumgard and Steve Wiertzma. Interment will be 2:00 Monday at East Lawn Cemetery Sheldon, IA. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements. Send condolences online at www.totzkefuneralhome.com.
