A call was received at the dispatch center at 10:37 a.m. Thursday, December 15th stating the Like home in Hadley was on fire. Four area departments, including Slayton, Lake Wilson, Chandler and Iona, were quickly sent to try and extinguish the flames. The emergency personnel fought flames throughout the day and into the early morning hours on Friday despite the extreme frigid temperatures which dipped to -20 degrees. The Hadley Community Center was opened to offer personnel an opportunity to warm themselves. Community members, as well as outside of the area, quickly stepped up to help in any way possible. Rick and Dar were not there at the time of the fire and their home was completely lost. Along with that, they lost their beloved dog. A gofundme page has been set up to help the Likes.
