Fulda/MCC Warrior Wrestlers Travel to the Redwood River Riot

There was some tough competition at the Redwood tournament this past weekend.  Dawson Blankenship was at 106lbs wrestling varsity, he had a tough loss in the first round against Patrick Hesse of Sartell-St. Stephen. Danny Blankenship was wrestling at 120lbs; he was wrestling Trent Kerzman of Rocori, going into the 3rd period Danny was down by 3. He gave everything he could but came up short losing 15-7. Jon Gehl, wrestled at 152lbs, looked every good on his feet against Hunter Johnson from United South Central. Jon had four takedowns in the match winning by a final score of 9-4.

In the second round Jon wrestled Acoaq Altkin of MAGR who was seeded 6th in the tournament. Jon had an early takedown than giving up and escape, after the second period Jon had a 4-3 lead. Jon choose down as we was awarded 1 point with and escape. Exhausted but victorious, winning 5-3.

In the 2nd round of wrestle backs Dawson faced Damon Schultz of Worthington. Only down by 3 going into the 3rd period, Dawson working to get out fell short losing 7-0. Danny also in the wrestle backs against Noah Jenson of Marshall. Scoreless after the 1st period, Danny giving up a takedown but shortly getting a reversal to even the score at 2-2 but late into the period gives up reversal being down 4-2 heading to the 3rd period. Danny would choose down hitting a reversal with time running out of time, the score to go to Overtime. After the one minute overtime it was still tied. In double overtime Danny couldn’t hang on and lost a heartfelt match 11-8.
