OBIT HANSON 21931 – Iola Ardell Hanson – 2016

Iola Hanson was born on May 28, 1931 on the family farm near Walnut Grove, Minnesota to Gideon and Erma Jackson Knakmuhs. She grew up on the family farm near Walnut Grove, Minnesota and attended country school. On August 8, 1951 she and Myrl Hanson were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they made her home in Walnut Grove until 1958 when they moved to Hadley, Minnesota. Iola worked as a custodian and in the kitchen at the Murray County Central School in Slayton for over 25 years. In 1997 they moved to Slayton, Minnesota. Myrl passed away on November 8, 2014. Iola remained in their home with the help of her grandson Matt. Iola passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 85. She was a member of the Hadley Lutheran Church and was active with the ladies aid and with the quilting group. Iola enjoyed spending time with family, sewing, quilting, baking, playing bingo, and watching racing.

Survivors include her three sons and their spouses: Brian Hanson and Angel Schultz-Neu, Slayton, MN, Barry and Cindy Hanson, Hadley, MN and Wade and Dana Hanson, Eagan, MN; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister Evelyn Hanish,f Jeffers, MN and two sisters-in-law: Veronica Knakmuhs, Walnut Grove, MN and Jean Knakmuhs, Marshall, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Myrl; two grandsons: Heath and Travis Hanson; three brothers: Harley, Bob, and Carlos Knakmuhs and one brother-in-law Bill Hanish.

Funeral services wereheld at Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist was Dianne Johnson. The pallbearers were Matt Hanson, Matt Schiller, Tannor Schiller, Alec Hanson, Tyler Hanson, Blake Hanson, and Nick Hanson. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
