Gene Winter, the son of Alphonse and Josephine (Schettler) Winter, was born on June 9, 1944 in Nobles County near Fulda, Minnesota. He grew up on the farm and attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and graduated from the Fulda High School in 1962. Gene attended Worthington Jr. College. He entered the US Army and served in Taiwan during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. He then did apprenticeship training under Benny Amborn and became a Master Plumber. Gene was united in marriage to Linda Fury on April 17, 1971 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived in Fulda. Gene worked as a plumber in the Fulda area for over 40 years. Gene passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Worthington Sanford Medical Center at the age of 72. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church where he sang in the church choir for 44 years. Gene was also a member of the American Legion Post 318. He served on the Fulda Volunteer Fire Department from 1972 till 2007. He was on the SMOC Board since 2001 and belonged to the Murray County Zoning Board. He enjoyed Fulda football and basketball, golf, playing cards, deer hunting, fishing, carpentry and gardening. Gene loved hanging out at the Feed Shack, spending time with his grandkids and watching Wrestle Mania with the boys.

Survivors include his wife Linda Winter, Fulda, MN; children: Allison Winter, Fulda, MN, Gretchen (Chad) Scott, Sioux Falls, SD and Mitch (Jenny) Winter, Fulda, MN; seven grandchildren; sister Mary Ann (Harlan) Boom, Fulda, MN; brothers: Bob Winter, St. Paul, MN, Richard (Wanda) Winter, Marshall, MN, Ted (Marge) Winter, Fulda, MN and Lloyd (Mary) Winter, Fulda, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Donna Winter and brothers Butch (Pat) Winter and Ray Winter.

Funeral services are at the St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting celebrating. The organist is Dana Hogan. The song leader is Ken Salentiny. The pallbearers are Scott Knorr, Ray Winter, Tyson Meyeraan, Chris Ahlers, Anthony Zins and Jeff Beckman. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors provided by the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017.
