  Bob Udstuen was born on February 17, 1936 on the family farm near Ruthton, Minnesota to Obert and Aagot Hytjan Udstuen. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Ruthton High School in 1954. Following high school Bob worked for his uncle, Ole in Balaton, Minnesota for a short time. On September 12, 1959 he and Marilyn Houselog were married at St. Martin’s Church in Woodstock, Minnesota. Following their marriage they made their home in Worthington, Minnesota where Bob worked for Lambert Lumber Company. After only four months in Worthington Bob was transferred to Huron, South Dakota. In 1960 they returned to Ruthton and Bob again worked for his uncle until 1964 when he took over the family farm. In the early 1970’s the family moved to the Slayton, Minneosta area and Bob worked as a carpenter in the area. Bob passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at his home in Slayton at the age of 80. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton where he served on the Church Council and was song leader for many years. He also was a member of the Avoca American Legion Post. Bob enjoyed spending time with family, woodworking, playing cards, trivia, fishing, boating, camping and the occasional trip to an area casino.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Udstuen, Slayton, MN; four children: Kathryn and Kevin Christians, Chanhassen, MN, Keith Udstuen and Tom Hudson, Hadley, MN, Kim Kalas, Marshall, MN and Kelly and Tom Orvis, Marshall, MN; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two sisters: Colleen Rosenthal, Maple Plain, MN and Jordy and Ervin Scholten, Pipestone, MN. He was preceded in Death by his parents Obert and Aagot Udstuen; step father Harold Andersen; sister Dorothy Jamieson and brother Chuck Udstuen.

Funeral services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gregory Parrott officiating. The organist was Judy Andrews.
