The Murray County Central Rebels were riding a two game losing streak into their game Saturday night against the Heron Lake Okabena Wildcats. The Rebels got just what the doctor ordered because the Wildcats have just one win on the season and MCC was in desperate need of a good showing. Though it wasn’t the smoothest game for the Rebels they wound up with a big win at home when it was needed.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams showed on Friday and Saturday and showed how easy or how hard the game can be based simply on mindset and confidence. If you believe you can win you usually play like it. When you make the game easy without trying to make the perfect play but let the game come to you and move the basketball to a player in better position, the game becomes more enjoyable to play and to watch.

In both cases the Rebels moved the basketball sharing it with each other in positions where they could have success and, in both cases the teams won. Now the tough part is taking that confidence along with the free and easy style of play and doing it against better competition. The Rebels didn’t shoot the ball well on Saturday they made under 40% of their shots but they took over 40 shots in the first half along with 20 free throws. The Wildcats were within 4 points with four minutes to play in the first half before going on a 12 nothing run to open up a 39 to 23 lead at halftime.
