Drug Court a plus for local woman

Talking to Jill Erdman means there will be interruptions.  She and her husband Jason are the parents of five children.  Peace and quiet doesn’t come easily to this household.  Giggles, cries of distress and questions for Mom abound on a typical day after work.   One can only imagine the shouts of joy that took place in that house when Erdman graduated from drug court on January 11 at a ceremony at the Courts Building in Slayton.

She is proud, and has a right to be, that she finished the court not in the 18 to 24 months that is the norm, but in just 16 months.

Erdman has a personal opinion as to why she was able to finish in 16 months.  “I didn’t have any lapse, didn’t do a thing wrong,” she said of the days spent in the program which included daily monitoring of one form or another.  “I think those who take the course as an alternative to jail time have a harder time, they think of it as punishment.”

“There are curfews, a test-line where you call in daily at a specific time, out-patient treatment, keeping a weekly schedule,” she said of the terms of being involved in the Court.  She runs out of breath as the list is long but if someone wants to kick a bad habit, Erdman is convinced this is the way to do it.
