Curt Peters was effusive in his description of what it was like to grow up in Slayton. He graduated from Slayton High School in 1960 and continued his education at Valparaiso University in Indiana. The anniversary celebration for Trinity Lutheran will also be a mini-reunion of sorts for the Peters family, children of Earl and Delores, as they will be represented by Richard, the third oldest, Phyllis, who lives in Slayton, Marlys and Curt.

“Going to Slayton High School was a fabulous experience,” Curt said recently via email and phone conversation from his current home in New Albany, Indiana – just outside of Louisville, Kentucky.

He remembers in detail his confirmation from Trinity Lutheran in 1956 and recalled others in the class, Roy Kohls, Lee Peters, Gary Onken, Joyce Onken to name a few.

He was “very honored” and “very excited” that he was asked to be a part of the special anniversary service on June 25 at Trinity. He will be giving the sermon with Romans 1:16-17 as the text and titled, “Celebrating the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

He is going to focus on the 75th anniversary of his home church along with the Reformation. “Especially the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession in 1830,” he said. “Both will be celebrated.”
