The MCC Rebels were in Marshall on Friday to take on the Dawson Boyd Blackjacks in some Holiday Basketball action. Both teams came in winning games with the Blackjacks losing their last two games after they had lost their first three. The Rebels beat Edgerton in their last outing before Christmas and now are looking to build a winning streak. You never know what you will get in Holiday Tournament play because so many players spend time away from consistent practice. In this game, it was clear neither teams had taken many shots except for one individual.

The two teams practiced a very slow methodical pace to the game on Friday with neither team pushing the tempo especially in the first half of the game. The Rebels were looking to use their length to frustrate the Blackjacks inside as MCC had height advantage at all but one position on the floor and inside the Rebels had several inches on the smaller Dawson Boyd team. On the other hand, the Blackjacks were the quicker of the two teams and that was a problem for the Rebels. The Rebels made just 23% of their shots in the first 18 minutes. Dylan Johnson made a pair of three-point shots in the first couple of minutes of the game but MCC didn’t make another three-point shot until the second half. Dawson Boyd made 56% of their shots but of the 14 shots made Romell Horton made 9 of them with 6 being three-point baskets. Horton outscored the Rebels in the first half by himself 24 to 17. The Rebels trailed at halftime 36 to 17.
