Patricia “Pat” Wagley – Obituary

1929 – Patricia “Pat” Ann Wagley – 2017

Patricia “Pat” Ann Wagley was born on December 2, 1929 on a farm near Iona, Minnesota to Bernard Onken and Leona Kellen Onken. She grew up on a farm near Slayton, Minnesota and went to school in Slayton. On November 17, 1949, Pat married Robert “Bob” Wagley and established their home on a farm south of Slayton eventually moved into Slayton. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and was the silent partner behind Bob when they owned Slayton Oil Company. Pat and Bob ventured away from Slayton for a few years after the sale of the service station but returned to their roots in Slayton where family and friends remained. Pat was quite, calm, and easy going.  She was an excellent cook and baker, avid card player, enjoyed bowling, always wore lipstick and enjoyed being with family and friends.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and a Catholic Daughter. After a short illness during the summer of 2016, she became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton.  Pat passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the age of 87 at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She is survived by her seven children: John Wagley, Gaylene Suedbeck, Nancy and Gary Sauder, Kim and Roger Carlson all from Slayton, MN, Tim and Denice Wagley,  Fort Belvoir, VA, Barb and Scott Kleve, Slayton, MN and Dave and Karen Wagley, Brandon, SD. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws: Harold (Swede) Swenson, Slayton, MN, Lowell “Bud” Wagley, Sioux Falls, SD, Roger Wagley Glenwood, MN and  two sisters-in-law: Vangy Wagley, Glenwood, MN and Adrianna Wagley, Ellsworth, MN. She was preceded in death by Bob her husband of 67-years; parents Bernard and Leona Onken;  Cathryn Swenson, Marge Meacham, and Madonna Rolfes her three sisters; Marlene Wagley daughter-in-law, Tracy Lee Sauder infant granddaughter, Chad Suedbeck grandson, Bob Meacham, Francis “Bugs” Rolfes and Gordon Wagley brothers-in-law and Olive Wagley sister-in-law.

Funeral services  were held at St. Ann’s Church on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The Orgainst was Judy Andrews.  The song leader was Sheila Crowley.  The grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as pallbearers. Interment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Totzke Fuenral Home of Slayton was entrusted with arrangements.
