The Murray County Central Rebel Boys had a big challenge on Friday night. They took on the #1 team in the Red Rock Conference. The Rebels squared off against the undefeated Red Rock Central Falcons. The Falcons beat the MCC Rebels earlier this season in Lamberton and are ranked #5 in this week’s Minnesota State Basketball Polls. The Falcons have a tough inside game and an experienced back court that make them a tough team to beat. This game was a hard fought close contest down to the very end.

The first half was a grind it out sort of game with tempo played at a slow pace. Both teams were playing some very good half court defense with points at a premium. The Rebels started the game hot from the three point line with Brad Schreiber, Nate Everson, and then Cole Bassett hitting four.

The Rebels forced the Falcons into seven first halfturnovers which was big for the MCC. Red Rock Central got the ball inside to Trevor Pederson and the 6’5” big man score d nine first half points including five of six from the free throw line. Sam Hasen provided the fireworks for RRC. Hansen hit a three point shot early in the game but with MCC in front 24 to 18 and the clock running down in the first half Hansen delivered a second three point shot at the buzzer. The Rebels led at the half but instead of being up 6 or 8 they only led 24 to 21.

The second half saw the Falcons and the Rebels yo-yo back and forth with the Rebels maintaining the lead then the Falcons closing the gap and back and forth it went until the last five minutes of the game.
