The MCC Rebels were in Fulda Tuesday night for a bit of history. For close to 100 years the Fulda Raiders and the Slayton Wildcats and now the MCC Rebels have squared off in sports football, basketball, track, and girls sports as well. That rivalry is going to be going through another change as the Raiders will become the Coyotes in all sports not played with MCC next season.

Heron Lake Okabena Fulda has paired in select sports this season including football, girls basketball, track and field, baseball, and softball. That list will grow next year to include volleyball and boys basketball. That change made Tuesday the last regular season matchup between the Rebels and Raiders for the foreseeable future. If you are not going to play your rival again, winning the last game between the teams becomes the ultimate bragging rights.

The Rebels and the Raiders played earlier this season in Slayton with the Rebels getting a commanding victory. This game started very differently with the Raiders getting off to a better start. Tyler Madison and Payton Marquardt scored six early points, each which had the Raiders in the game with MCC.

The Rebels adjusted some on defense and they began to pull away. Nate Everson would heat up from the three-point line and Mason Woldt dominated the paint. The Rebel seniors scored at will with Woldt scoring 10 points in the first half and Everson scoring 17 including five three-point shots. The Rebel duo outscored the Raiders by themselves. It was a fast-moving first half with four total fouls called the half. In fact, we didn’t see a foul called until the final five minutes of the half. The Rebels led at the halftime break 44 to 25.
