The MCC Rebel boys opened the week on Tuesday at home against the HBC Patriots. The Rebels and the Patriots played the 6:00 p.m. game of the boy/ girl doubleheader. The earlier start sure didn’t seem to bother the Rebels who came out with strong defense and shooting well from the tipoff.

MCC has put together some strong performances since Christmas and this was one of the best. They played well on both ends of the court for most of the game.

Hills-Beaver Creek was undefeated in the Red Rock Conference until last week when they lost to MLAC and SWC. Now the Patriots were trying to bounce back with the game against the Rebels which is much easier said than done. Mason Woldt made his second straight start for the Rebels and he continued his strong play since coming back from injury. The Rebels have enjoyed Woldt’s return to the lineup because as a team they are much deeper with a post presence. The Rebels shot the lights out in the first half making 19 of 31 shots for 61 percent which is the highest of the season. The Rebels held the Patriots to 38 percent shooting as a team. Not only was shooting lopsided, but the turnovers were also in the favor of the Rebels as well. MCC forced the Patriots into 12 while the Rebels gave it up just four times.

MCC had three players in double figures scoring at halftime led by Mason Woldt’s 13, Spencer Wajer’s 12, and Nate Everson’s 10.

The Patriots didn’t have a single player in double figures. Leading the way for HBC was Luke Larock with eight points in the first half making two three-point shots and also making two free throws. The Rebels led at the break 43-28

The second half was much more offensive for the Patriots but the Rebels didn’t have much either. The difference between the teams is that the Rebels entire team found times in which to score while HBC had only two players find shots that they could make.
