Thursday night the MCC Rebels made the short trip to Fulda to take on the Heron Lake Okabena Fulda Coyotes. The Coyotes have struggled this season without a single win on their record. They are the last team in the Red Rock Conference without a victory. The Rebels were looking to end their own losing streak which stood at two after playing back to back games with Lac Qui Parle Valley and Hills-Beaver Creek. The Rebels had no problem posting the win and end their losing streak.

The Rebels did a great job of setting the game’s tempo pushing the ball up the floor and also creating scoring opportunities with their defense. They forced HL-O/F into 23 first-half turnovers which really sparked the offense. MCC was able to get inside the paint and score on the break. Shelby Christiansen led the way early in the game as the passer and distributor getting the ball to Montana Beckmann and Ines Rios Rus for a layup after layup.

The Rebel senior duo combined for 30 points with Rios Rus scoring 16 and Beckmann 14. As the half continued Christiansen picked up her own scoring making a pair of three-point shots and then driving hard into the paint for some tough baskets. She finished the half with 12 points.

The Coyotes were led by Kelsey Fuerstenberg who scored six. The Rebels led 46 to 16.

The second half moved quicker than the first half because of the running clock at the nine-minute mark. Yet the Rebels still were able to score 33 second-half points. Montana Beckmann continued her strong play with eight second-half points while Brook Engbarth and Amber Boock scored eight points each in the final five minutes.
