1930 – Mary Ann Garvin – 2019

  Mary Ann Garvin, the daughter of Lawrence and Olivia (Sudtelgte) Ahlers, was born on February 8, 1930, in Orange City, Iowa. She grew up on a farm by Remsen, Iowa and attended school. After graduation, Mary Ann taught school in a one-room schoolhouse by Remsen. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Donald Garvin on January 25, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. After their marriage, they lived on a farm by Fulda, Minnesota. In 1953, Mary Ann traveled with Don while he was in the Military. In 1955 they moved back to the farm by Fulda, where they lived and farmed until 2008. They moved to a townhome in Worthington, Minnesota, where Mary Ann continued to live after Don passed away in February of 2015. Mary Ann passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at her home in Worthington at the age of 89. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. Mary Ann enjoyed spending time with family and spoiling her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling to see family and friends, playing cards, cooking and baking for everyone that stopped by to visit them.

Survivors include her three children: Jacqueline Garvin, Bailey, CO, Jim (Debbie) Garvin, MN, Minnetrista, MN, and Joe Garvin, Wabasha, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Julie Garvin and daughter-in-law Margaret Garvin. 

Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN on Monday, December 9, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The song leader was Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers were Daniel Garvin, Lauren Garvin, Kaitlyn Garvin, Shannon Skibba, Cory Skibba, and Samantha Garvin. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.
