Linda Johansen – Obituary

1946 – Linda Kay Johansen – 2018

Linda Johansen was born September 5, 1946 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Kelmer and Wanda Booth Hellie.  She grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1964.  Upon graduation she attended business school and worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Later, she worked for Federal Savings and Loan in Pipestone and eventually Slayton, Minnesota. On January 14, 1967 Linda Hellie and Craig Johansen were married at the Lutheran Church in Pipestone.  They made their home near Hadley, Minnesota where they farmed side by side through their 51 years of marriage.  Linda was a fun, caring and loving woman who was easy to talk to and quick to laugh. She loved spending time with her family and friends, from big holiday gatherings to a simple dinner out. She especially enjoyed being a grandma, and was immensely proud of each of her grandchildren. Linda also loved being outside, her dogs, animals (but not mice or raccoons!), feeding and working cattle, field work, meticulously caring for her lawn, bird watching, motorcycling, and the annual trip she and Craig made to their winter home in Texas where they enjoyed exploring the area on their motorcycle and had developed many new friendships. Linda was also an active and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Slayton. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Sanford Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 71 from complications stemming from a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband Craig Johansen, Hadley, MN; two sons: Doug (Kate) Johansen, Worthing, SD and Chris (Stacy) Johansen, Canby, MN; four grandchildren: Whitney (Josh) Long, Wyatt Johansen, McKinley Johansen and Mitchell Johansen; one brother Ronald (Karen) Hellie, Pipestone, MN; two brothers-in-law: Kevin (Gail) Johansen and Donald Gass all of Slayton, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Kelmer and Wanda Hellie; father and mother-in-law Roy and Frances Johansen; brother-in-law Douglas Johansen; sister-in-law Joanne Gass; great-niece Lacey Gilb and uncle Orville Hellie.
