Jottings by Jerry – October 11

Contemplating the areas first frost of the season and wondering if that was really snow/sleet we had with Monday’s rain? I started hauling plants into the garage which is no small feat. The gathering starts in the far corners of the yard and working inward till they were all together. Most go into the garage but two go straight into the house. One is a huge Christmas cactus that has been in the family for several generations. The other is one of those little tiny Norway spruce trees. This one had three shoots that made a full little pot that was a gift for the holiday. That was about twenty years ago. It’s bigger now. Carrying it in and out of the house requires two people. It has been our Christmas tree for the last several years. The tree is six feet high now and has been repotted several times. Yes, it made it in again this year. The garage is still full and will be cut back and trimmed. They will be spread out amongst our offices. They love it, I’m sure.

The fires in California are taking its toll in lives and property. This seems to happen on a regular basis. There is little you can do to prevent the destruction. The best thing you can do is to move every one out which will be difficult. I’m happy to be in Minnesota and take my chances with tornadoes.

Daughter: My fiancé said I could have whatever I wanted inscribed on his wedding ring. What should I put?

Mother: Put what I put on your father’s wedding ring.

Daughter: What does it say. I’ve never seen daddy with it off.

Mother: Yes. It’s worked very well over the years. It says, “Put it back on!”

Think of your yesterdays as canceled checks that tell you how you spent your days. Think of today as a blank check just waiting to be spent for what you value now.
