Jottings by Jerry – May 29

Another couple inches of rain on Memorial Day with a promise of more. The Fulda area is very wet but to the north, the Dovray – Westbrook area has faired better with much of the crop planted. The rest is generally wetter than needed at this time. I don’t know for sure but south of I-90 seems to be fairing somewhat better. The forecast for Monday night is for another 1-2 inches.

The Memorial Day programs were restricted to inside activities. The graves of fallen veterans were decorated previously. The parade and the firing of the Civil War Cannon were missed. Each community has the same programs but each is unique. Honoring all veterans who have passed reminds us of the sacrifice that was made by the veteran and their families. Wet or dry the programs unite us as a family, a community and a country.

Saturday and Sunday were as nice of weather as there is to be had. Warm, not too windy and very pleasant for the holiday weekend.

I live in a semi-rural area.

We recently had a new neighbor call the local city council office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road.

The reason: ‘Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don’t think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.’
