Jottings by Jerry – May 1

Yet another challenge to Minnesota’s spring with last Saturday’s rain and snow. Several inches of slush built up making getting around just that much more difficult for another day. It was almost gone by night, melting from the bottom up. Total moisture was in the two to four-inch range depending. The tulips survived the attack well and may have a normal spring yet.

I have been reluctant to cancel my landline, but the increase in robocalls seems to be increasing. I’m not sure how many times you need to refuse medical braces or an extended car warranty. They are also increasing on cellular phones which is also troubling. There is very little in the form of a remedy that’s available except hanging up. I watch people (I’m not naming her) stare at the number before they answer, which doesn’t usually go well because of the use of local numbers. The outcome of all this is general frustration. I don’t mind them trying to sell something but if they have a machine calling constantly that machine should also know what “no” means. It could also detect yelling and slamming the receiver down. A heat sensor to detect the potential steaming cuss words could be helpful. Long story short, if you’re calling me, let it ring more than four times. I don’t move until the fifth ring.

I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked,

‘Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?’

To which I replied, ‘If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?’

He smiled knowingly and nodded, ‘That’s why we ask.’

My Old Aunt Says

Lady, if a man says he will fix it…

He will and there is no need to remind him every six months.
