Hadley Chili Challenge to benefit Lori Manderscheid

This year’s Hadley Lion’s Chili Challenge will take place on Saturday, January 7th. The annual event helps to raise funds for local recipients in need of financial assistance. This year the challenge will benefit Lori (Rick) Manderscheid. Lori was admitted to Avera Mckennen in Sioux Falls on the 23rd of September with trouble breathing. She has been having symptoms of a cold for a few weeks. It progressed quickly. Lori had previously been diagnosed with Rheumotid and as a result has difficulty healing. This complicated things in her progress to better health. Lori was transported to Mayo in Rochester the middle of October and has been there ever since. The initial diagnosis was some type of lung infection, however, after many more tests at Rochester, showed she has a sigificant lung disease. Lori remains on the ventilator as she works to become stronger throughout this healing process. As her caring bridge site stats…”It’s long, slow process.” He days consist of therapy and rehabilitation. Mayo had hoped to transfer Lori back to Sioux Falls to specialty hospital, however they won’t accept her until she is stronger and requires less oxygen. The post on her caring bridge site on December 26th: Our Christmas has been a bit trying. Despite mom trying SO hard to get stronger with her therapy, her lungs are just too sick. She’s very tired and these past couple of days have been rough. She specifically struggles the most in the morning. Her team of doctors at the Mayo are adjusting some medications to try and help. The rhumatoid medication still could help, but may just need more time. The damage that her rhumatoid and rhumatiod medications have done to her lungs must be pretty substantial.
