After 54 years of full-time priestly ministry, Father Fred Elskamp will have time enough at last to catch up on his reading.

He retired as pastor of St. Andrew parish in Tipton on July 1 and moved to a home he recently bought in Jefferson City.

“This is going to be a bit of an adjustment,” he noted. “I’ve been keeping quite busy for a good number of years.”

He’s looking forward to stopping to notice some of God’s simpler blessings that he may have overlooked.

“I hope a little more leisure will find me appreciating all that’s out there,” he said.

He’s also eager to begin “reading and rereading” some of the literature that’s been adorning his rectory bookshelves.
