Camryn Baumhoefner, daughter of Dan and Becky Baumhoefner, and a junior at Fulda High School, is one of 45 Minnesota 4-H members who will be attending the Presidential Inauguration on Friday, January 20th. This is the first time ever that a delegation from Minnesota 4-H will be attending the Presidential Inauguration.

Baumhoefner was selected  attend through the Minnesota 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus: Presidential Inauguration Program. “This program has been set up for 4-H members to learn the meaning and importance of the democratic process, as well as explore the history of the presidency, the election process and the role of the media. There are other benefits of the program like being able to discover the intricacies of the Executive Branch and learning about careers in politics. Regionally, the delegates will build relationships with other 4-H members from across Minnesota,” Jacquie Lonning, State Program Director, citizenship and Leadership stated.

When asked how she learned about the Presidential Inauguration Focus program, Baumhoefner explained that Minnesota 4-H sent out emails to members. “We had to write an essay and return it. Then if our essay was chosen, we had to have a phone interview with three people who asked us a variety of questions. This is outside my comfort zone. I am not the type of person who is going to go out and write an essay about a subject and I’m not usually going to have a conference call with three other people, but I did it! I didn’t think that I was going to be able to get in. I was unsure about writing the paper essay. But you learn that you can’t question yourself, you just have to go out and do it. Now I’m looking forward to attending and learning whatever I can,” Baumhoefner said.
