1926 – Agnes Marie Hogan – 2019

Agnes Hogan, daughter of Charles and Margaret (Wisdorf) Holinka, was born on October 23, 1926, in Belfast Township, Murray County, Minnesota, the fourth of eight children. She grew up on the Fulda family farm and graduated from Fulda High School in 1944. She married Leo Hogan on January 22, 1945, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. The couple farmed in the Fulda and Dundee area for 12 years and then moved into Dundee where they owned and operated a service station, convenience store and school bus service for over 40 years. Agnes was Dundee City Treasurer for 38 years, President of the Ladies Aid at St. Mary’s Church in Dundee, a member of the Dundee Senior Center and a volunteer for elections and other charitable events in the community. In 2008, she became a resident at Maple View Estates in Fulda, Minnesota and in 2016, she transferred to Maple Lawn Nursing Home, where she continued to be surrounded by caring friends and staff. Agnes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose quick wit, remarkable memory, gentle spirit, and quiet way was an inspiration to all who knew her. Agnes passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 93. 

She is survived by four of her five children and/or their spouse: Mike (Mary) Hogan, Windom, MN, Kathy Hogan, Eagan, MN, Peggy Castelaz of Aurora, IL, Gary (Dana) Hogan, Fulda, MN and daughter-in-law Teena Hogan, Sioux Falls, SD; as well as 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister and brother-in-law Donna (Jerry) Determan, Fairmont, MN; sisters-in-law Trudy Holinka and Rosemary Schweigert, Fulda, MN, and Betty Schwarzenbach, Worthington, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo; son Jerry; parents, Charles and Margaret Holinka; brothers: Chuck, Jack and Robert Holinka; sisters and brothers-in-law Marjorie (Ralph) Bonnell, Betty (Lawrence) Gengler and Darlene (Wally) Schnepf; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Dorothy (Rich) Gilbertson and Marjorie (Bob) Maurer. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Maple View Estates and Hospice of Murray County for their kindness and care.

Funeral Services were held at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist was Dana Hogan. The song leader was Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers were her grandchildren: Shawn, Amy, Brent, Tim, Michael, Celia, Margaret Jessica, Amanda, Riley, and Jaxon. Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Dundee, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements.
