The Rebel girls basketball team had another busy week with a non conference game against Pipestone Area to open the week followed by a pair of Red Rock Conference matchups with Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Hills-Beaver Creek. The Rebels  mirrored their season with some good play and plenty of struggles as well. The good news is the Rebels got a win out of the week.

MCC 44, Pipestone Area 52

They opened the week in Pipestone against the Arrows in a matchup of two teams with just three wins each. MCC played a game that was filled with highs and lows. They spent much of the game trailing the Arrows due to their size. Pipestone got 24 of their 52 total points from their low post players who outmuscled the Rebels much of the game. Zoe Velde, 5’10” Arrow senior guard scored nine points in the first half but more importantly dominated the defensive end of the floor nabbing steals and rebounds whenever the Arrows needed them.

MCC struggled to turn the ball over 11 times in the first half while only forcing three. At the half, the Rebels only trailed 26-19. The game came down to the final minute. The Rebels had a late run led by Morgan Clarke, Brooke Engbarth, and Shelby Christensen. They got a steal down three points with just 45 seconds left in the game. MCC attempted a layup that would have pulled MCC within one point but they missed. The Arrows grabbed the ball back and finished the contest making free throws and securing rebounds. The Rebels lost 52 to 44.

Shelby Christensen scored 11 points to lead the Rebels while Clarke and Bryn Hoekman each notched eight points.
