Tough night for Warrior wrestlers in New Ulm

By: Barry Kuball

The Fulda/MCC wrestling club traveled to New Ulm last Friday for a Quadrangular meet against Windom/Mountain Lake (Loss 59-24), New Ulm (Loss 60-18), Glencoe Silver Lake/ Lester Prairie (Loss 56-18).

It was a tough night for the team as they didn’t pick up a win against New Ulm the 18 points recorded were on forfeits.  Against GSL/LP  the Warriors made a bit of an improvement taking three matches all pins starting with Denver Ash who totally dominated Connor Meyer.  For the second time this year, Denver pinned his opponent with the Spladle a tough hold to get out of and Denver had Connor good and put his shoulders to the mat for the win.  Rylan Behnke took his time against Joey Barrett and wouldn’t find the fall until the third period with the score tied 14-14 with 14 seconds left on the clock we were looking forward to some overtime action but Rylan got a good hold on Barrett for the pin.  Ryder Henning found a win too as he took on Brent Lipke.  Ryder dominated this match but couldn’t find a way to pin Lipke until the second period where Lipke fell to Ryders’ grip at 3:22.

One outstanding match was Rylan Behnke against Trenton Renquist of Windom Mountain Lake.  Where Rylan was very patient and didn’t force anything as Renquist ran legs on him for two periods and had a tremendous lead going into the third period.  Renquist again in the third period got the legs in on Rylan, but this time Rylan was ready.  As Renquist went for another near fall Rylan turned his hips to land on top of Renquist got a deep reverse half, went chest to chest, and squeezed until the mighty thump of the referee’s hand came falling to the mat to give the pin to Rylan.
