Trek to Nebraska to provide aid

Nebraska continues to recover from recent flooding. Kathy Engler recently traveled to Nebraska to provide aid to those suffering. When she heard about the devastation, Kathy immediately knew she had to do something. “I didn’t even tell my husband.”

She joined the efforts of Bill and Audrey Lundy collecting supplies and needed items for the victims of the flood. Kathy brought in a load of items which were sent down with Eric and Lauren Guy earlier. She then went out and solicited items to take down on her venture.

Kathy was amazed and very thankful for the generous donations people offered. Hadley Farmers Elevator supplied 40 fifty pound bags of corn. Midwest Supply gave cases of water, dog food, a large bag of rubber boots along with numerous other items filling up almost half of Kathy’s horse trailer. Dale Vos gave a monetary gift which was used to purchase cleaning supplies. Tim Daniels purchased $300 worth of items to send with Kathy.   The Wendland family of Balaton were also amongst the contributors. Patty Gertner of Marshall, along with numerous people who dropped items at both Kathy and the Lundy family. Beth Kalass purchased a new microwave. Ruth Egnes road with Kathy as her co-pilot for the trip. They joined a group from Pipestone headed up by Jody Haag. “The people in the area have restored my faith,” commented Kathy. “There generosity, kindness, and willingness to step up for those less fortunate is amazing.”

Kathy left on Friday, April 5th at 8:15 a.m. initially stopping in West Point. The trek continued on to Hopper and Winslow. It was there Kathy had a conversation with a woman who explained every home in the community had the first level of their residence taken out by the rushing waters.
