Volunteers take on many forms. These precious souls are the often in the background of so many activities that take place in Murray County.

A volunteer is described as a person who does something, especially helping other people, willingly and without being forced or paid to do it.

A.C.E. of Southwest Minnesota helps to pair volunteers with different types of opportunities. The program provides an area for volunteers to share the skills and talents they have spent years perfecting, and to put their life experiences into motion for others, thereby benefitting the community in the process.

Volunteers often find they receive far more than they give. The quality of life is enriched by active participation in community service. But most of all, local communities benefit because of the volunteers’ willingness to share their most valuable possessions: their time and talents!

Speaking of sharing talents, a group of quilters meets every Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Slayton. Shirley Legler, Jean Sagmoe, Berdena Buys, Claris Nord, Ruth Green, and Ruth Koehler have donated their cherished quilts to organizations such as the Murray County, Lake Wilson church, the American Legion, Hospice, Slayton Library…just to name a few who have been on the receiving end of their gifts.
