Retirement for popular Murray County couple

Margie and Denny Anderson were sitting in their backyard one evening last week enjoying the warmth of the sun and talking about their upcoming retirement plans; Margie from the Extension office in Slayton and Denny from the local school, Murray County Central (MCC). The couple are parents to two, Trevor and Emmalee, and have acted as host parents for countless foreign exchange students through the years.

This will be their last year to host students.  Both agree it wouldn’t be fair to the youth as the Anderson’s themselves really don’t know what the future holds for them.  Retirement is going to be a new adventure for the couple.  Margie will continue to supervise foreign exchange students, up to five youth in a 120-mile radius of Slayton; next year the young exchange students she will be supervising will be within 60 miles of the Anderson home.

The couple have lived in Southwest Minnesota since 1985 moving to Slayton from Lake Wilson after ‘the’ tornado in 1992 to a home on Norwood Avenue.  Margie’s immediate plan after her last day at the extension office will be to head to her house and organize the kitchen.
