The MCC Rebels opened the playoffs last Tuesday against a familiar opponent. The Rebels were the third seed in the section 3A playoffs and would get a second chance to beat Adrian the sixth seed in the opening round. The Dragons lone win of the season came against the Rebels in Slayton in week six of the year. The Rebels have been unable to beat the Dragons in Slayton since 1996. All wins against Adrian have come in Adrian or at a neutral site. With revenge on their mind and the chance to advance in the playoffs the Rebels were looking for a better result than their last second loss to Adrian during the regular season.

In  a game that did not feature much offense it was the defenses that put on the show. Neither team was all that effective when the ball was in their hands because of their inability to make big plays. It was a defensive minded field position type game in which neither team could get much traction.

The Rebels again hurt themselves with key penalties. A holding penalty in the first half negated a big run by Zach Aanenson that would have put the Rebels inside the Adrian 25 yard line. Noah Boerboom and Teagan Peschges had stellar nights for the Rebels defense while Dakota John and Scott Edwards led the Dragons. The only score of the entire first half came late in the second quarter.
