The MCC Rebels have had a terrific football season which included six regular season wins, a sub-district championship, and a pair of home playoff victories. The Rebels on Friday traveled to Marshall to play in their second section title game in three seasons. The Rebels would play the Springfield Tigers for the section crown for the second time in school history. The last time the Tigers played the Rebels at home and beat the Rebels in convincing fashion. This time it was a defensive battle between the two teams and one point would decide it.

In a game that was a defensive battle, the Rebels dominated the first half marching up and down the field against the Tigers but they had one issue. As much as the Tigers defense would bend in the first half they didn’t break easily. Springfield actually took the lead on the Rebels with a first-quarter touchdown. Decker Scheffler threw a high arcing pass into the hands of Jordan Kieper for a 31-yard touchdown. Kieper added the two-point conversion for the first and only points of the first quarter.

The Rebels first drive of the game ended at the eleven-yard line when the Rebels failed to pick up a first down or score a touchdown.

The Rebels scored early in the second quarter on another strong drive. With some key passes to Danny Blankenship and a balanced running attack, the Rebels moved into scoring position and Justin Benda got the Rebels on the board with an 8-yard touchdown run right down the middle of the field. The Rebels failed to complete the two points conversion and trailed 8-6.
