The MCC Rebel Girls opened their season on Monday night with a home game against the WIndom Area Eagles.  One year ago the Rebels lost to the Eagles in a game in which the Rebels shot 72 times but scored just 22 points.  MCC played a much more competitive game this time around, but shooting was still a struggle for the Rebels.  Windom Area is led by the scoring machine named Madison Maras.  She put the Rebels defense through the paces in the first half and she and her team came out on top.

The game started slowly as both teams worked through the early season butterflies all teams and players go through. Maras scored the first three points of the game for the Eagles, but the Rebels took the lead with a basket from each of the starting guards Riley Schmitz and Montana Beckmann.  It was the Rebels only lead of the game. The Rebels defense was a step slow in the first half, not cutting off the Eagles, but rather following the ball and the players around the floor.  Maras took advantage getting into the line with creative moves. She got Riley Schmitz into foul trouble with two quick fouls. The Rebels slid Katlyn Knakmuhs over onto Maras and that was a good move for the Rebels, but Maras already scored 12 points at that point.  The problem for the Rebels was that when Maras slowed down, Marissa Isaacs and Autumn Hauge both stepped up.  Isaacs scored 8 first half points, while Hauge chipped in with 6.  The Rebels on the other hand, shot just 15% from the field in the first half, and missed all three free throws.  MCC trailed at the end of the half 30 to 10.
