The MCC Rebel Girls played just one game over the Christmas Break and that was Tuesday afternoon in Marshall. The Rebels were participating in the Broch’s Classic and had the chance to play the Minneota Vikings. The Rebels had just one win coming into the game while the Vikings were 3-3. Minneota has played a tough schedule and they showed just how dominant they could be. The Rebels worst game of the season maybe came in their win over WWG but Tuesday the Rebels did not play well and the Vikings destroyed them.

The Rebels got off to a great start scoring the first four points of the game a basket each for Riley Schmitz and Rachel Van Iperen. Those two baskets were the highlights for the Rebels in the first half as the Vikings scored the next 33 points. The Vikings, led by Lydia Sussner, turned up the pressure and the Rebels offense didn’t handle it well at all. The Rebels turned the ball over 18 times in the first half and Sussner was a big reason for it. Sussner is a 5’10” sophomore center who can run, handle the ball, and is quick to the ball on defense. She also is almost impossible to stop on offense where she has a great variety of post moves. Sussner lead the Vikings in the first half with 5 steals and a pair of blocks on defense plus she grabbed 12 rebounds. All pretty impressive stats for one half and we have not talked about her offense. Sussner scored 18 first half points 4 more than the Rebels scored as a team. Beth Hennen scored another ten points in the opening half as the Vikings out-scored the Rebels in the first half 50-14.
