A stellar lead-run performance by junior Justin Clarke, along with a closely-bunched “pack” finish from its next four runners helped Murray County Central / Fulda claim fifth place in the varsity boys’ team standings of the Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd Invitational high school cross country meet at the Madison Golf Course last Tuesday, September 18.

Clarke ran the relatively-flat 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:04.87, placing ninth among a total of 71 individual finishers, representing 12 teams.

The Rebels finished fifth as a team with 122 points (team places 8-27-28-29-30), again getting an exceptionally well-balanced effort from their second through fifth runners.

St. James (3-5-6-7-18) had four of the first seven finishers and won the meet with a low score of 39 points. LQPV / D-B, paced by individual champion Mike Kvaal (17:17.09), finished second with 51 points (1-9-12-14-15).

Redwood Valley was third with 64 points, followed by Benson / Kerkoven-Murdock-Sunburg (99), the Rebels (122), Pipestone Area (165), Montevideo (197), Lakeview (215) and MACCRAY / Renville County West (261). Yellow Medicine East, Ortonville, and Milbank (South Dakota) were each incomplete.
