The Murray County Central Rebel boys have done a nice job of avenging earlier losses this season. They lost to Westbrook-Walnut Grove earlier this season and the next time around the Rebels not only beat the Chargers but beat them by more points than they had earlier lost by.

So Friday night the Rebels were looking to do the same thing against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey. The Wolverines beat the Rebels in Mountain Lake before Christmas – a game in which MCC was missing Mason Woldt and just getting Spencer Wajer back from injury. The Rebels weren’t exactly at 100 percent in this game however they gave it their best effort.

MCC played its best first half of the season – which is saying something when you are playing the top team in the Red Rock Conference. The Wolverines lost just one game in the conference all season which put them in first place by one game over the Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles.

Murray County Central jumped out to a fast start in this game led by Spencer Wajer. He came out on fire scoring 16 first-half points hitting from the three-point line and getting to the lane for easy shots around defenders. Mason Woldt and Nate Everson also helped the Rebels cause combining for 13 first-half points. The Rebels piled up 41 first-half points which are terrific. What was really outstanding was the defense. MCC held MLAC to just 18 points in the first half. Eli Samuelson scored seven first-half points. When you manage just 18 points in 18 minutes, the opponents are doing something right. The Rebels were doing just that. MCC didn’t allow the Wolverines to get open shots as they did in Mountain Lake. The Rebels shot 50% from the field in the first half while the Wolverines were held to just 20% shooting.
