Sometimes, it seems as if compassion is in short supply. National Hospice Month in November is a great time to pay tribute and thank those angels of mercy who tirelessly help sick people cope, help the elderly to age in place, and provide loving spaces for people at life’s end.
Hospice of Murray County has been serving the area for over 30 years. In all of that time, they have been devoted to providing hospice services to patients and their families with comfort, compassion, and dignity during the end stages of life. They are a unique part of the health care community. Their vision is to ensure individuals and families experience quality care, physical comfort, compassionate service, a sense of emotional and spiritual well-being, and peace of mind. Hospice of Murray County provides a specialized form of care for people with terminal and life-threatening conditions.
Hospice of Murray County is directed by nine board members is a free-standing, community based, non-profit organization. They are able to provide services in a patient’s home as well as the four-bedroom facility located 36 Park Drive in Slayton, Minnesota.
Hospice of Murray County can provide services in any of the following counties including Murray, Cottonwood, Nobles, Lyon, Pipestone, Jackson, Lincoln, Rock, and Redwood. According to Jessie Jorgenson, administrator for the organization, it depends on the level of care needed and whether they have support available to them when considering available services. “Take for instance,” she said, “a patient in nursing home 45 miles away. They have that 24-hour care so we feel comfortable that they are further from our area that we typically would see.”
