The daughter of Ben and Connie Post, Kayla Post grew up on the family’s Corner Post Dairy farm west of Chandler, with her brothers Wade, 22, and Wyatt, 7, off the winding Valley Road. A rural, hilly countryside and a mother with a passion for horses provided Post with an upbringing that included the clip-clop of horse shoes.

“I never had a ‘first horse,’” Post said. “I just stole my dad’s horse and claimed him as my own.”

Post has gained valuable equestrian experience since the ‘theft’ of her father’s horse. Through her membership on the SDSU Rodeo Team and participation in area Minnesota Rodeo Association rodeos, she has begun what she hopes is a lifetime of working with horses. At the age of 20, she has bought, trained, and sold three horses on her own.

“I got really serious about it probably five years ago,” Post said. “I started hauling farther away and doing it every weekend and getting more into it.”

Post has received awards and recognition in exchange for her increased devotion and commitment. Her most prized: a saddle valued at $2,000, which she won in 2014 as an open champion award.

“I won my saddle with my first Thoroughbred,” she said.
