Murray County Foundation makes $6,500 grant for scholarships at Murray County Central

The Murray County Foundation (MCF) has made a $6,500 grant to Murray County Central High School (MCCHS). The purpose of the grant is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education after high school. Individual scholarships funded by MCF are based on academic achievement, leadership potential, and economic need. Foundation President Steve Laible has advised the MCCHS scholarship program that $4,000 of the total grant should be allocated to scholarships for deserving students with the greatest economic need.

The funding was made possible by both local donors and alumni of MCCHS who have memories of valuable experiences gained from their time at high school in Slayton. Scholarships funded by the MCF will be presented at the annual awards event in May of 2020.

The Board of Directors of the MCF also elected Karna (Tommeraasen) Bowers as a new Board member. Karna is a 1991 graduate of the high school at Slayton. She is the daughter of Karen; and the late Courtney Tommeraasen, a long-time teacher at the Slayton High School.
