The MCC auditorium will be transformed this weekend to down under the sea. Student actors will take on the form of sea creatures and bring to life Disney’s ‘Little Mermaid’.

The movie has taken shape with the MCC students taking delight in bringing the characters to life on stage. Co-directors Brenda Whitehead and Isaac Harms received input from the seniors as to what performance they would like to do. After receiving four to five, the directors looked through each of them to determine if MCC had the makings to bring the play to life.

Last year was Isaac Harms’ first year being involved with the musical.  He was more of an assistant role to the director.  This year he has enjoyed the extra challenge of being more involved in the directing of the musical as he share duties with co-director Mrs. Whitehead.  “I love working with Mrs. Whitehead as we make a great team sharing the various duties that come with putting on production like a musical,” shared Harms.

He went on to say, “I remember when “The Little Mermaid” Disney movie came out in theaters.  I was in upper elementary school and just remember how fun the animation was and how impressive the songs were.  It was really a pioneer to a new era of Disney Cartoons. So once we decided to perform “The Little Mermaid” as our musical, it was fun to watch the movie again and get some ideas on how we can incorporate the story to the stage.  Our cast even had a movie party a few weeks ago, in which we watched the old Disney movie to get us in the mood and learn more about each character.”

In all over sixty members make up this year’s cast, crew, and orchestra. King Triton will be portrayed by Cale Engelkes. Rylan Boehnke will take on the role of Prince Eric while Josie Harms is Ariel and Ursula will be played by Kelly Dahlhoff. Joining them are Rachel Siedschlag and Brittany Breberg as the eels. Simon Harms captures the character of Sebastian and is joined by Courtney Tutt as Flounder. Chef Louis is Dante Damm who has been studying French and is very excited to put this language to work. Jake Bleyenberg has taken on the role of Scuttle.
