Mock Accident

By: Sheila Crowley

Murray County Central school district joined efforts with Murray County Ambulance, Sheriff’s department, Slayton Police department, Slayton Fire Department, and Sanford helicopter as well Totzke Funeral Home to present the dangers involved with impaired or distracted driving.

As 1:00 p.m. neared students were released from MCC High School and made their way toward the southwest corner of the football field. The student body watched as the mock accident unfolded with area agencies responding.

A vehicle was staged to appear as if it had it a light pole. Four victims were involved in the accident with one of them being thrown through the windshield resulting in her death.

A call was put into 911 by High School Principal, Jake Scandrett.  The driver (Seth Atwood) got out of the car basically uninjured, walking around the vehicle tossing beer cans under the vehicle and around in an attempt to hide the evidence which is what scripted leading to the impaired driving incident.

Shortly after the call was put in law enforcement from the Slayton Police Department and Murray County Sheriff arrived on the scene. They quickly took an overview of the situation and checked on the other passengers involved.
