MCC students learn about farm safety

Taken from the Tracy Headlight Herald

Third grade students from six schools: Tracy Area Elementary, St. Mary’s, Milroy, Murray County Central, Lake Benton and Westbrook-Walnut Grove learned important lessons at CHS Friends of Safety Field Day held at the Tracy Airport.

Lyle Lamote with Lyon-Lincoln Electric of Tyler and Jennifer Gross with East River Electric of Madison, SD demonstrated the dangers of electricity with the help of detailed electrical model  called “Power Town”.

Gross said children can take electricity for granted and use it without even thinking about it. Before bringing “Power Town” into her demonstration, Gross informed the students that electricity travels through some things very well — like any type of metal — and water.

Gross, who said electricity can jump as high as 10 feet, also went over the four things electricity cannot go through; wood, plastic, rubber and glass. And she demonstrated how the weather with its rain, ice, snow and wind — can affect power lines. She said the weather can cause power lines to fall to the ground.
