The MCC Rebel girls were set to play two games this past week with just one game to go in the regular season. They had a goal to finish with a winning record this season and to accomplish that mark they needed to win two of their final three games. On Tuesday night the Rebels celebrated senior night and parents night at their final home game of the season. They played hosts to the SWC Eagles.

The Eagles will once again be the Red Rock Conference Champions and came into the Tuesday night matchup without a loss in conference play this season. Their closest game was a two point win over HBC last week in overtime. The Rebels would give the Eagles a run in the first half Tuesday night but they just didn’t have enough in the tank to spring the upset.

Patrick Freeman missed the game on Tuesday due to illness but the Rebels didn’t seem to miss a beat in the first 18 minutes. They struggled with 15 turnovers which against a team like the Eagles is not a good sign. Yet the Rebels shot 55 percent from the field and made seven of 11 free throws in the first half while out rebounding the taller Eagles to make up for the turnovers. The game was uptempo and the offenses were clicking.

In a conference where both teams can play an entire game in the 40’s the score at halftime was 47-42 in favor of SWC. Riley Schmitz scored 16 first half points in her last home game. Montana Beckmann scored seven while Shelby Christensen and Alyssa Groves each added six points.
