The MCC Rebel boys faced a difficult week with the possibility of big returns. The Rebels had three games beginning Monday against Westbrook Walnut Grove and all three games were on the road against Red Rock Conference opponents. So if the Rebels found a way to win they could make some major moves in the conference race. They faced their toughest test in game one of the week when they traveled to Westbrook on Monday. The Chargers are once again at the top end of the conference standings. They are a very balanced team with size to go along with good players on the perimeter. For the Rebels, it would be a major challenge.

The first half of basketball was some of the best of the year. Both teams had great moments in which they played well and each team had its moments where the opponent got the best of them. It was back and forth just the way you want a game that is being played by two good teams.

MCC started quickly because they shot the ball well from the three-point line. Jack Pierson made a couple of threes and Spencer Wajer and Nate Everson made two each. The Rebels led most of the first half but struggled to open up a lead of more than four points. While the Rebels were shooting the three ball the Chargers were going inside to 6’7” senior Parker Freeburg. He used his size and strength to back the Rebels underneath the hoop for easy baskets. The Chargers came back using Freeburg’s free throw shooting and contributions from Wyatt Christians and Nathen Ross. The trio of Chargers scored a combined 26 points led by Freeburg’s 12.

MCC held the lead most of the first half. With 13 seconds left in the half, Christians got inside the Rebels defenders for an offensive rebound and a putback that also resulted in a foul on the Rebels. A three-point play opportunity that he made put the Chargers ahead at the half 34 to 31.
