The Rebels went into Saturday facing the Red Rock Central Falcons. MCC lost to the Red Rock Central Falcons twice during the regular season. MCC competed with the Falcons in both games, in fact, the Rebels led a majority of the second game in Slayton. The struggles against the Falcons are nothing new. The Rebels had lost 14 straight games to the Falcons and they were hoping to end the streak so they could move on to the sub-section semifinals. The Rebels’ game Saturday played out much like the season, some really good, some average, and plenty of not good enough.

The first three-fourths of the game was not the Rebels best as they struggled to down the Falcons. During the regular season, Karli Arkell dominated the Rebels and MCC was looking to slow her down early in the game and they did. The problem for the Rebels is that Arkell hardly touched the ball the first three trips down the floor but the Falcons led 8-0. Lily Stavnes hit a pair of three-point shots and Hannah Evans scored from point-blank range. The Falcons never looked back because as soon as they were up 8-0, Nicole Schroepfer and Karli Arkell took over. Arkell scored 15 points in the first half and Schroepfer added 13. The Falcons made 52 percent of their shots while MCC shot just 24 percent from the field. Brynn Graphenteen scored six points and she led the Rebels in scoring in the first half. MCC managed just 17 first-half points and trailed at the half 42-17. The main difference in the first half was the shooting, MCC simply didn’t make enough shots.
