Josephine Eggink, 97, of Edgerton, formerly of Pipestone, passed away Dec. 20, 2018 at the Luverne Sanford Hospice Cottage.  Memorial services were held at the Chandler Reformed Church on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nathan Lamb officiating, organist is Jean Christoffels, and soloist is Amy Vander Lugt.  Casket Bearers are Craig Hawes, Jason Hawes, Austin Hawes, Derek Valnes, Brian Vander Lugt, Andrew Karssen, Charlie Chapman and Thomas Chapman. Interment is in the Chandler Memorial Cemetery, Chandler, MN.  The Chandler Funeral Association is assisting the family.

Josephine Eggink was born June 14, 1921 to Albertus and Josie (Vrymoet) Eggink near Chandler, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at the Chandler Reformed Church. She attended grade school in District #39, graduating from Chandler High School in 1938. For six years she helped on her parents’ farm before entering nurses training, graduating in 1947. Her career began at Ashton Memorial Hospital in Pipestone, MN and other area hospitals, followed by 30 years at Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, MN.

In 1983 she retired to Pipestone and joined the Pipestone First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Esther Circle and the Women’s Fellowship Group.

Through the years she enjoyed reading, gardening, going for walks, playing scrabble and visiting with family and friends.

Josephine moved to Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone on February 13, 2010, then into Good Samaritan Society, Pipestone on January 11, 2012. She moved to Falls Landing in Pipestone on February 27, 2012.  On March 29, 2012, Josephine broke her hip, so she moved into Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN on April 3, 2012.  Recently, she broke her hip again so moved to the Cottage – Hospice House in Luverne, MN where she died on December 20, 2018.

She is survived by six nephews and nieces, Derald Karssen, William Karssen, Alden Karssen, Janice Vander Poel, Gaylene Chapman and Albert Vander Lugt;  16 great nieces and nephews and many great, great nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents: Albertus and Josie Eggink; 3 brothers: Joe, Tony, and Lenderd Eggink; 3 sisters: Catherine (Arie) Vander Lugt, Jeanette (Bill) Karssen, Bernice Eggink; nephews Roland Karssen, and Pete Vander Lugt.

The Chandler Funeral Association is assisting with the family.
