Is a trip in your future? Something you might want to consider

Passport card can be obtained at local Murray County Recorder’s office

Is there a trip in your near future?  You might want to consider getting a Passport Card.  Beginning on January 22, 2018, you will need a Passport Card or Enhanced Driver’s License to board an airplane for travel within the United States and for accessing federal facilities such as military bases and federal buildings.

According to Murray County Recorder, Evey Larson, the Federal government has given Minnesota an extension to comply with the Real ID driver’s license law until January 22, 2018.    Real ID is a federal law that was first approved in 2005 to set minimum security standards for federally acceptable identification.  Both the Passport Card and Enhanced Driver’s License would comply with the Real ID standards, but currently, the closest License Center to offer the Enhanced Driver’s License is in Mankato.  There is an extensive list of documents that the applicant will need in order to apply for the “Enhanced Driver’s License” including proof of date of birth, proof of full legal name, proof of social security number, proof of photographic identity, proof of U.S. citizenship, and proof of Minnesota residency.  The Passport Card can be obtained by applying at the Recorder’s Office in Slayton and filling out an application and submitting that along with a passport photo, copy of your driver’s license and a certified copy of your birth certificate and will cost $55.  The Recorder’s Office does take passport photos for a fee of $15 per person.
