Gary McClure – Obituary

1971 – Gary Michael McClure – 2020

Gary Michael McClure was born on June 11, 1971, to John “Jack” and Sharon McClure in Val’dor, Quebec, Canada. Gary was diagnosed with coronary heart decease in 2017. After numerous hospital stays and relapses, he passed away unexpectedly at the age of 49, at his home on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, in Omaha, Nebraska. Gary’s early childhood was spent in Quebec, Canada, and Edwards AFB, California before moving to Bellevue, Nebraska where his dad was assigned to Offutt AFB.  Gary began the first grade in Bellevue and graduated from Bellevue East High School in 1989. During his high school years, he was active in numerous scholastic activities and excelled at sports. The two sports he enjoyed the most were football and wrestling. He was a captain on the football team and earned a college scholarship to play football at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1992, he began a career in the social services field at Community Alliance in Omaha, Nebraska. He loved every minute of his job as a Community Support Specialist during the almost 24 years that he spent working at Community Alliance. Even during his final of a couple of years when his own health was starting to decline, he made sure that his clients’ needs were taken care of to the fullest as he treated every client like family. Gary was an extremely caring and loving person who treasured time spent with his son, his family and his friends. The friends he had throughout high school and the college remained close to him his entire life and were like brothers to him. Gary was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan and hardly ever missed a game on television. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan and attended a number of Packer games with his dad and extended family in Green Bay.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, John Michael, Omaha, NE; parents, Jack and Sharon, Lake Sarah, MN; brother John (Elena), Phoenix, AZ and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Norman and Anna McClure and Clarence and Martha Leas and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 4425 24th Street, Omaha, NE. Burial will be at a later date.
