1950 – Ernest “Sonny” “Ernie” Christensen – 2016

Ernest Marinus Christensen, the son of Ernest Ole and Mavis (Peterson) Christensen, was born on July 17, 1950 in Heron Lake, Minnesota. He moved to the Slayton, Minnesota area in 1963 and graduated from the Slayton High School in 1968. Sonny then attended college in St. Cloud, Minnesota before he returned to the Southwest corner of the state and worked various jobs. He drove truck for many years until he owned and operated Roxy’s Roadhouse in Reading, Minnesota. Sonny then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to work as a Methane Pump Station Operator for a power plant. He then moved back to Ocheyedan, Iowa where he drove truck, eventually as an owner/operator until his retirement. Ernest passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the age of 66. He loved old cars, especially his 1956 Chevy Nomad and mud racing. Sonny also enjoyed drawing, painting, music, playing cards, sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, spending time with his family and his grandkids.

Survivors include his daughter Anita (Jeremiah) Miller, Ocheyedan, IA; two grandchildren: Haley Miller and Xander Miller both of Ocheyedan, IA; 10 siblings: Lornie (Sue) Franz, Sour Lake, TX, Denny (Margaret) Franz, Many, LA, Darrel (Sharon) Franz, State Line, IN, Sharon Ratfield, Lawrence, KS, Linnet (Bill) Hauck, Anoka, MN, Wendy Zephier, Raymond, SD, Gail (Bob) Weets, Holland, MN, Larry (Carol) Christensen, Ruthton, MN, Sandra (Paul) Fehrman, Lake Benton, MN and Nancy Habben, Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Clinton Christensen; infant sister,Brenda Joyce Christensen and sister Irene Weinrebe.

Funeral services Totzke Funeral Home Slayton, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 with Rev. Daryl Thul officiating. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Send condolences online at www.totzkefuneralhome.com.
