The year 2014 marks 100 years since the outbreak of World War 1. Called “The Great War” and “The War to End All Wars,” this conflict was the first total war in world history. A total war requires the mobilization of a nation’s entire economy and the contributions of both its military and civilian populations. This means that the war affected everyone, from the soldiers on the battlefield to the farmers in the fields on the home front.

To commemorate this war, Murray County Museum Coordinator Janet Timmerman and Museum Curator Anita Talsma Gaul are planning a new exhibit titled “World War 1: At Home and in the Trenches.”
