Verlinde’s named Murray County ‘Farm Family of the Year’

Any stranger to Murray County could quickly discern that farming is the heart of the county by simply glancing out either window of his car. Corn stalks, soybean plants, and broad beef cattle line the county roads and tractors can frequently be seen plugging alongside cars and trucks on the highway. Country music blasts across the majority of the local radio stations and small talk is usually about this year’s crop turnout rather than the weather. Agriculture may be the heart of Murray County, but the farm families who maintain these farms are the electricity that keeps the heart pumping.

This year, the Verlinde family was awarded the title of Murray County Farm Family of the Year, and fittingly so. Growing corn, soybeans, oats, and an assortment of cover crops, as well as raising feeder cattle and show cattle with the help of embryo transfer, the Verlindes prove that they run a versatile farm.
